monza race 1 podium, 2006
What a sweet taste! "It was great to be straight back up on the top of the podium for the first race of 2006. Not least because we had a new car and the competition was even tougher. We certainly didn't expect a win because the Saturday had been dramatic. We had a fire inside the car during practice and I ended up inhaling some battery fumes so I had to go to the medical centre. Then I only managed to put together the lap that got me on pole in the last minute of the qualifying session. The race was almost an anticlimax after that, and I was able to pull away early on and then do my own thing."
