guernsey lifetime ambassador
Andy has been given the ultimate accolade by his home island in a ceremony that saw him presented with a Guernsey Lifetime Ambassador Award by Bailiff of Guernsey, Geoffrey Rowland, and Lord Seb Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic organising committee.
The citation on this award highlighted Andy's "outstanding achievement in twice winning the FIA World Touring Car Championship and, in doing so, bringing recognition and credit to his home island", something he is very proud of.
In his acceptance speech Andy thanked Guernsey for the supported he had always received during his career and especially when winning his three titles. However, Andy's racing career is very much a 'family affair' and he also paid tribute to this remarkable group of people who have always been there for him.
Without doubt Andy has brought world-side media attention to the island and the community were also honouring his commitment to continuously promoting Guernsey. Andy is unique in the island’s history, as he is the only person to be named Guernsey Ambassador of the Year on two occasions, in 1999 and 2005.
