The number 67 Ford GT that Andy Priaulx shares in the FIA World Endurance Championship with fellow Brit Harry Tincknell and Brazilian Luis Felipe Derani will start tomorrow’s first round of the series from pole position in the GTE Pro Class.
The Guernsey driver was first to go out in this afternoon’s 20-minute session on the 3.661 mile (5.891 kilometre) Silverstone track and set a time of 1min 55.858 secs that was not bettered. Tincknell then took over the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing car and his time of 1min 56.546 secs gave them an average time that was good enough for pole.
After the session Priaulx commented: “The car was really good. From the start of Free Practice 1 yesterday we have steadily improved the car every session. For me everything came together in qualifying and I had the perfect lap so I am really happy. We’ve been performing at 100%; we’re not holding it back. We have a long race ahead of us tomorrow but we have a great car for the long distance. We have worked on tyre degradation and we’ve worked on setting a good balance, so it all looks good.”
The race, which is obviously a home one for both Priaulx and Tincknell, will start at 12.00 and finish at 18.00. The team’s other car, the number 66 of Stefan Mücke (GER), Olivier Pla (FRA) and Billy Johnson (USA), will start from fourth place.
