Andy Priaulx wins on home ground

It was a perfect Easter weekend for Andy Priaulx at his home round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The Guernsey driver was sharing his Ford GT with Harry Tincknell and Pipo Derani and after the six hour race at Silverstone they converted their pole position to a win in the GTE Pro Class.

To make it a perfect result the number 67 car also set the fastest lap of the race. After the team had completed 171 laps of the 3.661 mile (5.891) Silverstone Grand Prix circuit the triple world champion said: “I am really happy with the weekend overall. We had a stonking day yesterday with pole, and we were a big lump ahead of the rest of the field. Today I had a really good start, made a gap, but ended up with a slowly deflating or lowering pressure front tyre and an opening door, which cost me an early pit stop. Then I had a great second stint. We were lucky in some ways to get the safety car. However, you make your own luck , and we also had the pace to win the race. We had a strong, strong race. Harry and Pipo were great and we are a brilliant team. It is a fantastic way to start the WEC and hopefully we can have many more like that, as we have won three out of the last four races in the championship. I just hope now we can keep that momentum going.”

The number 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing sister car driven by Stefan Mucke, Olivier Pla and Billy Johnson finished fourth. The next race is in Spa-Francorchamps on the 6th May.
