Andy Priaulx scores best Le Mans finish with second in the Ford GT

After a tough race held in intense heat Andy Priaulx, Harry Tincknell and Pipo Derani scored a second place finish in the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours for the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team.

For the entire 24 hours the race for the LM GTE Pro podium was fierce with the manufacturers regularly swapping places. There was no let up for any of the 13 entries from five different manufacturers. With a third place on the podium assured for the number 67 car dramas in the final few minutes for a Corvette saw Harry, who drove the final stint, overtake the stricken car for second.  Andy, who drove the opening stint of the race after starting from ninth in class on the grid, said: “That was an amazing race. It was a faultless race with faultless pit stops. These guys (the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team) deserve a medal as yet again they have risen to the challenge. It was a gruelling race; we had to fight through every lap, every pit stop, every moment of the 24 hours. Everything had to be perfect and it was.  Watching Harry at the end was nail-biting so when we saw the Corvette appear in Harry’s sights we knew he would get the job done and take second.”

Andy has spent the past week in France at the 13.629 kilometres (8.469 miles) long Circuit de la Sarthe, where he has raced three times before. “I just love this place and was over the moon back in 2010 when I was on the GT podium then. However, that was a third place so to go one step higher is fantastic. It goes without saying now for the future my focus is on the top step of the podium. It has been a long build up to this race, but now we have to refocus on the remaining six races in the FIA World Endurance Championship and I am looking forward to going to the Nürburgring in a month.”
