Andy Priaulx on home track for the third round of the FIA WEC Super Season

6 Hours of Silverstone – 18th/19th August

Andy Priaulx loves racing on home territory, so for him the next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship will be very special as it is the 6 Hours of Silverstone. This is more than just a UK circuit for the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Team driver, it is where he has spent many of his racing years. When he takes to the track on Friday in the number 67 Ford GT he shares with fellow Brit Harry Tinknell it will be very special, as he considers it his second home.

“I look forward to every race, however, for me just going past the sign that says ‘Welcome to Silverstone The Home of British Motor Racing’ is extra special and I can feel the excitement mounting. This place holds such amazing memories for me both on and off the track, as I used to live there in a caravan. We have had a bit of a tough season so far, but I am hoping things will change this coming weekend,” he said.

The competition in the LMGTE Pro class in the championship is very fierce with five manufacturers – Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Ford and Porsche – all vying for the victories and Andy is more than aware of how hard it is to do well in the championship, as he explained: “Each race is like a six, or in the case of Le Mans, 24 hour sprint. We are all so closely matched and this means that we have to work extra hard for every last point. However, having won the race at Silverstone in April last year I am pretty confident Harry and myself can be competitive and, of course, our aim is to match that result. The track suits our car and it is one of those that I thoroughly enjoy racing on as it has some amazing corners.”

The cars will first hit the 5.891 kilometre (3.661 mile) long track in Northamptonshire, which is just down the road from the team’s HQ, on Friday (17 August) for FP1 from 12.15 to 13.45, followed by FP2 from 16.25 to 17.55. On Saturday FP3 will be from 09.00 to 10.00 and Qualifying for the LMGTE Pro class will be from 12.00 to 12.20. On Sunday the six-hour race will start at 12.00 and end at 18.00.
