A busy year ahead for Andy Priaulx in the WTCR
Andy Priaulx will be busier than ever in 2019 as he takes on a new racing challenge in the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), which replaced the WTCC in 2018. The triple world champion will be driving for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing alongside his old FIA World Touring Car Championship sparring partner Yvan Muller and Thed Björk. The wealth of experience in this team must surely be unrivalled with the driver line-up having eight world titles between them.
When this new deal was announced a very delighted Andy commented:
“I have been very lucky in my career to have driven for some great teams and now I can add Lynk & Co Cyan Racing to that list. It is an amazing feeling to know that even before you start the season you have a great chance of adding more victories and even titles to your racing cv. I also can’t wait to be teamed up with Yvan and Thed. Yvan and myself go way back as both team mates and opponents and it feels a bit like going home to know I shall be alongside him. Obviously I know Thed by reputation and am certain we will be a formidable team.”
This programme means Andy has a busy 2019 ahead of him and commenting on this he said:
“I have happy memories of the days when this series was the WTCC and I won my three titles. I want to thank Larry Holt from Multimatic for allowing me to compete in the WTCR along with my commitments in the WEC.”
When making the announcement Christian Dahl, CEO of Cyan Racing, said:
“Andy is a true touring car legend and his track record speaks for itself. His mix of experience and raw speed will be vital to us. We are glad to have him onboard for the 2019 WTCR season that looks to become one of the toughest ever.”
In the WTCR the car Andy will be racing will be one of WTCC winning squad’s Cyan Racing’s Lynk & Co 03 TCR race cars.
